One of the most important things in attracting more people to live downtown is to have a variety of living options. The current residential projects in downtown Greensboro are low rise development and some single family homes. A greater focus on mid-rise and high-rise mixed-use development would provide options for those who seek urban living with spectacular views of the city. Many of these high-rise developments could have office space, retail, restaurants or mini-markets on the ground level. Civic leaders believe that in order to have a successful 24-hour downtown, the center-city must have a large residential population to help sustain many of the new businesses and attractions. Because downtown Greensboro has a small foot print and there is only so much land that can be developed, mid-rise and high-rise construction will become crucial for building a large residential population within the center-city. More mixed-use high-rise development would also contribute in achieving a more urban image for the center-city. A growing skyline is always a sign of progress.
