Built in 1926, the King Cotton Hotel was Greensboro's premier hotel. The hotel was located at the corner of Davie and Market Streets where the News & Record is located today. A new version of this hotel could be built, much like the revival of the O'Henry Hotel, The King Cotton could be built as a hub hotel for the newly remodeled Depot and can include an onsite textile museum with exhibits from Greensboro's textile history. The combination of a hotel, museum, meeting space, transportation hub and retail establishments would make this a dynamic development. Its unclear when the market will improve for adding more hotel rooms in the central business district, but at some point in the future we could see a demand for more hotel rooms as downtown continues to become an attractive destination.
